Outlook: What are those boxes?

posted 17 October 2017 | Staff Announcement (staff)

Have you ever wondered why Outlook displays red, grey, green, orange and sometimes purple boxes next to staff members’ names?

Your Microsoft Outlook now integrates the new Skype for Business application, and vice-versa. Meaning that Skype for Business, once logged in, can tell others if you are in a meeting, away or on holiday. Outlook then reflects your status to others via the coloured indicators next to your name!

To ensure all staff can benefit from this, from 9-18 October, Skype for Business will be set to launch automatically on the start-up of your computer.

Once Skype for Business has launched, log in with your staffnumber@murdoch.edu.au and Murdoch password. Tick the box to remember you, and you are ready to go!

Guidance on how to use Skype for Business, including how to carry out an instant chat conversation, Internet-based telephone or video call and how to manage your availability status manually, visit the Office365 Moodle site.

Note: Webmail access to your mailbox and Skype for Business is accessible via the Office365 site on any internet-enabled device (with a web browser). Therefore, if you do not have your work computer with you, you can easily communicate with others via a mobile phone, tablet or home PC!
