Curriculum@Murdoch Program: Activities, First Quarter 2018

posted 15 January 2018 | Staff Announcement (staff)

Over the past 12 months, the Curriculum@Murdoch (C@M) team has been working, with your assistance, to create some exciting changes to the way we work with and manage the University's curriculum.

So far we have seen the introduction of the Coursework Regulations 2018 and amendments to some associated Policies and Procedures.  Over the coming months, we will be implementing the new Curriculum Management system (CourseLoop) and providing you with more information about Curriculum Diagnostic Reviews.

Detailed below are some workshops and information sessions scheduled for early in 2018.  We hope each of you takes up one or more of these opportunities.

  • Each of the below offerings is available now for enrolment via the TCMs

Sessions for Everyone: Intended for those who have an interest in how policy is applied and how the new system looks. (Role-specific training will be offered later in the year.)

  • Introduction to Coursework Regulations (CWR) 2018 (1hr): This presentation, supported by managers from the Academic Registrar's Office, will walk you through some common scenarios where the new Coursework Regulation 2018 changes will apply.

  • Introduction to CourseLoop (1hr): This high-level system walkthrough will provide you with an introduction to the navigation methods and functions in the new system, including how to view, search, filter, edit, comment and change curriculum.

Sessions for Academics who write and maintain Curriculum: These sessions are offered as a number of you have indicated that you would appreciate support in these areas:

  • A Course Design Model (2hrs): This workshop will provide you with an overview of student /audience types, and areas to consider when designing your curriculum. We will look at design planning techniques; content structuring and alignment; the importance of and principles around Outcomes; and how assessments can be evidenced.

  • Overview of Assessments (2hrs): This workshop will provide you with an overview of some commonly used assessment principles, the chance to discuss the different assessment types, consider reliability and validity, highlight the importance of feedback, and detail how assessments are best supported by effective teaching.

  • Evaluating a Course (2hrs):  This workshop will provide you with an overview of the different models of evaluation, detail ‘what counts’ in evaluation activities, and discuss practical and collegial approaches to evaluations, that have research potential.

We look forward to seeing you at one or more of these events!
