Applications open: UniSuper Professional Development Award $5000

UniSuper recognises the importance of gender equity and diversity in the workplace with a $5,000 professional development award for female members of staff.

Murdoch University is pleased to partner with UniSuper in promoting gender equity and diversity in the workplace with this professional development award for women.

Research shows that women taking breaks from work due to parental or carer’s leave (as primary care-givers) often sacrifice career development opportunities and superannuation earnings. According to the Australian Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), figures from the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia show that women retire on average with 46.6 per cent less superannuation than men.

This $5,000 award is sponsored by UniSuper to assist with professional development for female employees at Murdoch University. It aligns with Murdoch’s SAGE Athena SWAN pilot project which recognises that achieving gender equity and diversity is not only ‘fair’ and ‘the right thing to do', but it is also linked to a country’s overall economic performance and innovation.

Nominations are open to all female-identifying employees currently employed at Murdoch University, including academic and non-academic staff, full-time, part-time and sessional, as well as those currently on parental or carer’s leave. In particular, those whose career progress has been subject to career breaks (i.e. parental/carers leave) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applications are due Monday 3 September to SAGE@murdoch.edu.au, addressing the following criteria (max. 1000 words):

  1. Provide examples of how funds will be used for professional development and how this may benefit the applicant and the University.
  2. Where relevant, identify how career break/s resulting from parental/carer’s leave have inhibited the applicant’s career progression.
  3. What prevents you from engaging in more professional development, and what enables you?
