Happy end of STEPtember, here are the winners!

Published: 6th October 2021

STEPtember is a challenge to do 10,000 steps a day, and to reflect on the cause it is supporting – Cerebral palsy.

step 300x420

Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood. It’s caused by damage to the developing brain either during pregnancy or shortly after birth – directly affecting a person’s movement and posture for life.

STEPtember is not a race against each other, but a challenge for us to individually aim, to walk, wheel, jump or run 10,000 steps a day.

But as STEPtember has come to an end, staff and students who registered for STEPtember went into a draw to win a gym membership kindly donated by our awesome gym right on campus 'The Zone Fitness Centre' for the following categories.

Congratulations to our winners:

One x 3-month membership to the student with the highest number of steps:

  • Lyndon Fernandez at 654,890

One x 3-month membership to the staff member with the highest number of steps:??

  • Katie Trand at 658,945

One x 3-month membership for the winner of the participation prize (anyone who completed over 100,000 steps were entered and put into a prize draw generator):

  • Charlotte Rowley at 300,798

Up to four x 1-month memberships to the team with the highest number of steps:

  • Young and the Breathless - Space & Timetabling at 1,604,294

Research shows that for the average adult, 2,000 steps equal about 1,600 metres or one mile. Your aim is a minimum of 7,000 steps, or 5.6km, up to 10,000 steps (8km) a day.

Speed and intensity don’t matter — just get moving!

Happy end of STEPtember.
