The Pride flag dates back to 1978 as an emblem of empowerment for the queer community, and it has gone through several design changes to become more inclusive. In 2017, black and brown stripes were added to recognise LGBTQ+ people of colour and First Nations peoples. In 2018, a Pride Progress Flag also incorporated the Trans community colours of white, pink and blue. (Rainbow with a cause, 2019)
