National Day of Mourning 630x380

A National Day of Mourning has been announced for Thursday, 22 September to commemorate Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s life and dedication to service.

As a university committed to reconciliation, we acknowledge this is a time for us to reflect on Australia’s complex history. While we mourn the loss of an individual who fulfilled her duty, we recognise for many people their view of the Monarchy is affected by our nation’s history of colonisation.

In recognition of this day, Murdoch University’s Australian campuses will be closed on 22 September. Normal operations will continue at Murdoch Singapore and Murdoch Dubai.

For students in Australia, it is expected that your academic activities (classes, tutorials, labs etc) scheduled for 22 September?will be cancelled. In some instances where the scheduled activity is mandatory, it will need to be rescheduled to an alternative date. Course specific guidance will be provided to you via your unit coordinators in myMurdoch Learning (LMS).

Teaching and learning activities scheduled for 23 September proceed as normal.

Exams

Exams currently scheduled for 22 September will be rescheduled. These rescheduled exams will still fall within the defined exam period, so it is expected all affected students will be able to attend their exam on the revised date.

Work Integrated Learning placements

If you are on a work placement, you should follow the advice of the employer you have been placed with – they will let you know if you need to attend on 22 September.

Whether you will be required to make up the additional hours will depend on your course. Guidance will be provided by the University coordinator for your work placement.

Library

The main Geoffrey Bolton Library at South St and the Library in Mandurah will be closed. The Learning Common (24/7) in Geoffrey Bolton will be open as usual. The Vet Library will only be accessible to Vet staff and students by swipe access.

Graduations

Graduations planned for 21-23 September at RAC Arena will continue as planned.

Retailers on campus

Retailers on campus have been asked to advise if they will be open or closed on Thursday, 22 September. The list of retailers that will be open will be posted to the Student Portal early next week.
