It's Great Cockatoo Count time!

Date: 07 MAR 2023 Time: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Location: Building 440, room 1.036 Website: Register here Add to Calendar:

The Great Cocky Count is one of the largest citizen science projects in Australia. It's like a census night for the two endemic and endangered species of Black Cockatoos that live in the South West of Western Australia, the Carnaby's (or white-tailed) and Forest Red-tailed black cockatoos.

Join Birdlife Australia's Southwest Cockatoo Recovery Programme leader, Merryn Pryor, to learn how to do the Great Cocky Count, which will be held on 2 April at sunset this year. You'll also learn all about cockatoo ecology, and what you can do to help protect these magnificent and iconic cockatoos.

Then sign up to do the GCC- either at Murdoch University's Perth campus, which has long been recognised as a 'super roost' for both species, or another roost site near your home- Birdlife also loves having Cocky Counters who are willing to go 'regional'.

The Training and the GCC itself are family- friendly, easy to do, engaging and a lot of fun.

See the Birdlife information page for more information and to sign up to do the GCC on 2 April, or register via the link above to RSVP for the Training session.
