Murdoch University, Project Hiu and Madison Stewart ‘Shark Girl’ invites you to submit an expression of interest for participating in a mobility project during this Winter Term – June/July 2023.
- 3 credit point general elective unit of Professional Business Project with Murdoch Business School
- $5000 New Colombo Plan Mobility grants available to cover flights, accommodation and other program expenses
- Intensive teaching over 6 weeks including two weeks in Kuta Lombok with day trips to Maringkik Island which is located 1.2km (10 - 15-minute boat ride) from Lombok
Supported by the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant Program, Murdoch University and Project Hiu have teamed up to offer a unique 3 credit point general elective unit which aims to regenerate the most destressed marine eco-systems, by providing alternative incomes to the planet’s largest fleet of shark fishing vessels, and to simultaneously expand its impact and contribution to improving basic human needs of the residents and families of Maringkik island such as community welfares, water supply, waste management, school education.
What can you expect?
Guided and supported by Murdoch academic Dr David Zhang and project partner Project Hiu, students will work in teams to design and contribute solutions to an identified real need, opportunity or problem.

Who is this for:
Undergraduate students from any discipline area are welcome!
The project is funded by the Australian Federal Government. To be eligible for the $5000 Grant funding you’ll need to:
- Be an Australian Citizen
- Be enrolled in a Murdoch University undergraduate degree
- Have completed at least 24 credit points
- Have a General Elective left in your degree, which counts towards the core requirements of your course. Please note that you are unable to take part in this project, if it is in addition to your core requirements.
Conditions may apply if you have received a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant in the past. Please contact us if you have questions around your eligibility.
Students who do not satisfy eligibility for NCP funding, including International students, are welcome to apply as self-funded applicants.
Cost:
- Eligible students will receive a $5000 scholarship from the NCP Mobility grant to cover the cost of the program. Further details will be provided at time of application.
- Students selected to participate will be enrolled in BUS3451. The unit cost can be deferred onto HECS as per normal.
