Every year on the last Friday in August, LGBTIQA+ youth around Australia are celebrated and recognised through the Wear it Purple initiative. By wearing purple in solidarity, we show that Murdoch is a supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environment and community setting.

At Murdoch University, we welcome everyone to participate in Wear it Purple Day on Friday, 25 August, to signal our commitment to LGBTIQA+ inclusion. We have a number of events occurring across campus to get involved in.

Wear it Purple!

Simply come to Murdoch that Friday wearing purple, and yes Dockers merchandise counts!. We would love to see pictures of research groups, clubs, or classes all dressed up together, and make sure to tag Murdoch (@murdochuniveristy) so we can see your pictures! We encourage club executives and student leaders to speak with their teams about this and provide reminders as the day approaches.

Wear it Purple at The Den

Events are happening down at The Den in the days leading up to Wear it Purple Day, on Tuesday, 22 August, and Thursday 24 August. Each day will have a different activity, including nail painting, tie-dye (bring your own garment) and pride-ifying shoelaces! The International Cafe on Wednesday, 23 August, will have a badge making activity for Wear it Purple Keep an eye on The Den posters around campus to learn more, or pop down Monday through Thursday at the Winter Garden. This is a fantastic opportunity to get something purple if you don’t have any clothing or accessories already.

Photo Wall in the Library

If you’re looking for a space to show off your Wear it Purple Day outfit, the Geoffrey Bolton Library foyer is the place to go. There will be a dedicated purple photo wall with props all week long.

We hope to see you on Friday, 25 August wearing your best purple clothes. Days like Wear it Purple Day are a fantastic opportunity to show solidarity with our LGBTIQA+ communities, staff and students alike. These acts of visibility do not go unnoticed, and we encourage as many people as possible to participate.

If you are hosting an event or initiative of your own, we would love to hear about it, or get some pictures!
