Differences between the versions
The previous version of Microsoft Stream was a dedicated service to store organisational video content and was the destination for all videos recorded within Microsoft Teams.
The new version stores videos within SharePoint or OneDrive – a behaviour that you’re likely already familiar with. The destination (SharePoint or OneDrive) depends on the context in which the recordings were made, enabling more flexibility, security, and compliance.
Your recordings will be saved automatically as follows:
Meeting
|
Location
|
Access
|
1:1 Call
|
OneDrive of the person who clicked record.
|
Member who initiated the recording is owner and other party has read access.
|
Group Call

OneDrive of the person who clicked record.

|
Adhoc/Scheduled

Under Recordings in the Files for that particular Channel.
|
Member who clicked on Record has edit rights to the recording. Every other member’s permissions are based on the Channel SharePoint permissions

The new version also supports external video sharing. So, you can now easily share videos with people outside of Murdoch University. You can control who can access and edit your videos and set expiration dates and passwords for shared links.
Using the new version of Microsoft Stream
The new version of Microsoft Stream is integrated with SharePoint and OneDrive, which means you can upload, view, manage, and share videos from these apps. You can also access Stream from the Microsoft 365 app launcher or by visiting stream.microsoft.com.
Uploading of videos that have been recorded outside of Teams and are intended to be used within the University can be done by:
- Dragging and dropping your video to the upload page.
- Browsing and selecting the file from your device or cloud storage.
The video’s details – such as title, description, thumbnail, permissions, and options – can be edited before or after uploading.
