Why Join Reconciliation WA?
Reconciliation WA provides a platform for organisations like Murdoch University to transform dialogue and intentions into tangible actions. As a Bilya member, Murdoch University is now joining a network of proactive Western Australian organisations and individuals committed to reconciliation. This membership will facilitate our engagement in meaningful cultural exchanges, support our reconciliation initiatives, and strengthen our community ties through Reconciliation Program Partnerships.
Our Collective Journey: "Now More Than Ever"
This year’s National Reconciliation Week (NRW) theme — "Now More Than Ever” — calls us to reinvigorate our efforts towards reconciliation. Despite the mixed outcomes of recent initiatives such as the Australian Indigenous Voice referendum, the continuous support of many Australians for First Nations peoples' rights and recognition highlights the ongoing need for action.
Pro Vice Chancellor First Nations Chanelle van den Berg reminds us of the critical role that universities play in shaping societal consciousness and advancing reconciliation.
“Universities play a significant role in progressing dialogue and action towards reconciliation through education, truth-telling and transparency. As an educational institution, Murdoch University’s commitment to truth-telling is more important now than ever.”
-Pro Vice Chancellor First Nations Associate Professor Chanelle van den Berg
Yohann Devezy, EDI Project Coordinator said this national dialogue is crucial and demands our continuous attention.
“By participating in NRW 2024, we are given a special opportunity to enhance our comprehension and strengthen our dedication to advancing reconciliation.
“The cross-universities panel hosted at Murdoch is a powerful way to explore what is next, post-referendum, for universities in the reconciliation space."
-Yohann Devezy, EDI Project Coordinator
