Neurodiversity Celebration Week is all about embracing the strengths and talents of neurodiverse individuals while breaking down misconceptions and stereotypes.
In this new video, we hear from Giselle Hein, a first-year Bachelor of Education (Primary) student at Murdoch University, as she shares her experiences and insights on neurodiversity.

Our Community Voices - Neurodiversity (7:58)
A huge shoutout to Giselle for an amazing interview and to Kyra Klaasen for her support in filming and producing this video! Special thanks also go to Dr. Dennis Ndonga, Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (School of Law and Criminology), and the teams who provided valuable feedback.
This video follows our previous Deaf Awareness video, and we’re excited to bring you even more content soon!
Supporting Our Community
This project has inspired us to highlight some of Murdoch University’s awesome support services, including:
- Creative arts therapy at the Caladenia Centre
- Peer Academic Coaches (PAC) to help with study support
We also want to feature the experiences of students from First Nations backgrounds, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, students with disabilities, and the LGBTIQA+ community.
Want to be involved? Know someone who would love to share their story? Reach out to Dr. Dennis Ndonga!
Hidden Disabilities Lanyards
Did you notice Giselle’s lanyard? The green lanyard with sunflowers is a Hidden Disabilities symbol, letting others know the wearer might need extra support or understanding. Murdoch University is finalising its membership with Hidden Disabilities Australia to better support students on campus. Stay tuned for more info!
Let’s celebrate neurodiversity and work towards a more inclusive Murdoch community!
