Unwind and enjoy music, food, markets and free activities. Bring along your family and invite friends and colleagues to have some fun this summer. Everyone is welcome!

Why is it called the Birak Festival?

Birak is known as the summer months (December to January) and is represented by the colour red as it symbolises heat, sun and fire.

As the rain eases, the warm weather increases, and the afternoons are cooled by the sea breezes from the South West, this is when the Birak season begins.

During Birak, native flora bursts into vibrant colour, with candlestick banksias and western woody pears coming into bloom across our landscape. Reptiles become more active and begin shedding their skin, while young magpies (koolbardi) learn vital feeding skills under the watchful guidance of their parents.
