Murdoch University is making a change to how we keep your demographic records related to gender identity.

Previously, Murdoch University had three reporting options for describing gender identity, which were offered by the Australian Government. Those options were:

  • F – Female
  • M – Male
  • X – Unspecified/Other

In 2026, new reporting options will be made available by the Australian Government. This list has more expansive options for describing gender identity. These options are:

  • F – Woman/Female
  • M – Man/Male
  • N – Non-binary
  • D – Different Term
  • P – Prefer not to answer

On Friday, May 1, all students will be moved to the new reporting codes.

  • If you are listed as F – Female, your new code will be F – Woman/Female
  • If you are listed as M – Male, your new code will be M – Man/Male
  • If you are listed as X – Unspecified/Other, your new code will be D – Different Term

You can check your listed gender identity in MyInfo.

If your listed gender identity is changing to your preferred selection, you do not have to do anything.

To identify with a different option, please email Student Admin with the option you would like to select. Alternatively, you can visit Student Central.

No documentation is required to change your listed gender identity.

If you are a Transgender or Gender Diverse student and would like more information about updating your details with Murdoch University, including name, gender identity, title and pronouns, please review the Gender Affirmation Guide.
