TLC100 replaces MSP100 Career Learning: Managing Your Career, which is no longer available for new enrolments. Students who have already completed MSP100 will continue to have it recognised as a Discovery Study unit.

New Unit: TLC100 AI in the Workplace

TLC100 AI in the Workplace develops AI literacy and capabilities in the context of future careers, supporting the Murdoch Education Plan (2025–2030) objective of equipping students to use emerging technologies to enhance learning and employability.

The unit examines the transformative impact of artificial intelligence in the modern workplace, with an emphasis on how AI tools can extend human knowledge and capability. Students will develop foundational AI skills across three themes:

• Creative and innovative application of AI technologies
• Evaluative judgement and ethical use of AI
• Collaborative knowledge creation

Assessment includes a reflective journal, a Creative AI Portfolio, an Interactive Oral Case Study focused on ethics and bias, and a final Group AI Innovation Proposal, supporting the development of foundational AI literacies through applied, innovative and ethical practice.

Other Discovery Study unit updates

Several Discovery Study units have recently been updated with new TLC unit codes. You may notice that both MSP and TLC versions of the same units appear in the Handbook.

The key message for students is simple: if you see both MSP and TLC versions of a unit in the Handbook, choose the TLC version. The TLC-coded units are the current units available for enrolment.

The only exception is MSP201, which remains relevant for students already enrolled in the existing year-long offering.

• TLC201 (not MSP201, unless you are already enrolled in the existing year-long offering)

TLC101 Communication Skills for Undergraduate Study

This unit supports students to develop foundational academic communication capabilities, including critical reading, writing, research, oral communication, and listening skills across varied study contexts. The unit also develops teamwork and interpersonal communication, alongside structured opportunities to engage with the ethical and responsible use of AI to support learning while maintaining academic integrity. 

TLC200 Building Employability Skills

This unit focuses on foundational employability development in a technology-driven labour market, examining contemporary workplace practices, digital technologies including AI, and recruitment expectations, while supporting students to undertake structured professional development activities and plan ongoing skills development and career pathways.

TLC201 Real World Learning

This unit develops transferable professional capabilities through structured engagement in approved programs or community-based activity, supported by a pre-experience plan, reflective practice, and evidence of learning development, enabling students to apply knowledge in authentic contexts and strengthen professional networks.

TLC202 The Search for Everything: Data Analytics and Storytelling

This unit develops foundational AI-adjacent data capabilities, enabling students to clean, manipulate, interpret, and visualise data using Excel to communicate data-driven insights to stakeholders, while critically examining the role and impact of data analytics across professional and societal contexts and engaging with ethical considerations including data surveillance and the influence of large-scale analytics systems.
