How Volunteering Can Enhance Employability and Leadership Skills: MSEL Leadership Talk Date: 01st May 2014 Time: 12:30 PM - 13:30 PM Location: ECL 3 Lecture Theatre, Murdoch Campus This presentation is part of the MSEL (Murdoch Student Emerging Leaders) Talk series. Special guest presenter: Murdoch Graduate, Reece Harley (WA Program Director for AIME and City of Perth Councillor). Reece Harley currently manages a team of 17 staff who co-ordinate AIME, a structured Mentoring and Tutoring Program for more than 600 Indigenous High School Students from around WA. Reece also served on the City of Perth's Youth Affairs Council for 5 years before being appointed the City of Perth's International Youth Ambassador and more recently, elected as a City of Perth Councillor. Before taking up his new role with AIME, Reece worked for Senator the Hon. Chris Evans, Federal Minister for Tertiary Educations, Skills, Science and Research. Reece is also credited with the following voluntary contributions to community: - founding member of the Rotary Club of Crawley;- member of the WA Governor's "Kids Who Give WA" Committee helping to promote volunteering and philanthropy among WA Primary School Students; - WA Coordinator for the White Ribbon Foundation - helping to prevent and raise awareness about violence against women and;- member of Spacemarket's Advisory Board, helping to pair underutilised spaces with useful people in Perth and throughout WA. Reece completed a Bachelor of Communication with a Major in Political and International Studies at Murdoch University during 2004 – 2010. He served as the Student Guild President during his studies at Murdoch as well as serving a term on the University's Senate, which helped cultivate a career focused on giving back to community and leadership development.
