Western Australia in a Time Of Change
This year’s Sir Walter Murdoch Lecture will focus on Western Australia as part of a rapidly changing world. Science and technology advancements in Western Australia are helping us to build a better future as we encounter changes in our built and natural environments, our jobs, the way we travel and the way we produce and access food, water and energy. Professor Beazley will discuss how we can help to future-proof the planet by educating our community, progressing our infrastructure and taking advantage of our unique geography and biology.

Professor Lyn Beazley AO FTSE
After graduating from Oxford and Edinburgh universities, Professor Beazley built an internationally renowned research team that focused on recovery from brain damage. Much of her career was based as a Winthrop Professor at The University of Western Australia.
Professor Beazley was honoured to be Chief Scientist of Western Australia from 2006 to 2013, advising on science, innovation and technology as well as acting as an ambassador for science. She has extensive experience serving on advisory bodies, including the Federal Government’s Bionic Vision Australia and the State Government of Western Australia’s Technology and Industry Advisory Council.
Her numerous awards include Officer of the Order of Australia, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, induction into the inaugural Western Australian Women’s Hall of Fame, Fellow of the Australian College of Educators and Companion of Engineers Australia. Earlier this year Murdoch University invited Professor Beazley to become the inaugural Sir Walter Murdoch Distinguished Professor of Science.
Professor Beazley is a tireless ambassador for science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and was delighted to become the second recipient of the Governor’s Award for Giving, in recognition of her enthusiastic philanthropy.
