Earth Hour at Murdoch Uni

Date: 22nd March 2013
Time: 12:00 PM - 13:00 PM

Location: South Street Campus

You’re asked to turn all off lights and unnecessary appliances on campus for 1 hour on Friday 22 March in support of the global ‘Earth Hour’ event which is held across the globe on Saturday 23rd March. Prizes will be offered to teams with the best overall performance during the hour – register at sustainability@murdoch.edu.au to be eligible. Consider holding a walking meeting or taking your reading or lunch outdoors.

Earth Hour will take place around the world on Saturday March 23rd to take action on climate change. Murdoch University is supporting this important initiative by asking all staff and students to turn off lights and appliances for one hour on Friday 22nd March, from 12noon-1pm.

Public security lighting will remain on, but other lights and unnecessary appliances can be switched off (e.g. computers, screens, printers, microwaves, urns, white boards). Remember to switch off at the wall switch or plug, as appliances on ‘standby’ waste energy.

Register your staff or student team to be eligible for prizes at sustainability@murdoch.edu.au or 9360 6361. Set an ‘I will if you will’ (IWIYW) challenge for bonus prizes (see http://earthhour.org/sites/default/files/How%20To%20Guide%20to%20Earth%20Hour%202013.pdf).   Download an Earth Hour Poster to put in your staff room or student housing.

You’re also encouraged to turn off during the global Earth Hour on Saturday 23 March, 8:30pm (www.earthhour.org). And continue to make a difference every day by always turning off lights and appliances ‘at the wall’ on campus and at home.
