posted 08 November 2016 | Student Announcement (student)
Murdoch's 8th Annual English and Creative Arts Colloquium invites presentations in the areas of Literature, Creative Writing, Theatre/Drama, and Media Studies. Open to academics, postgraduates and undergraduate students.
The 8th Annual Murdoch English and Creative Arts Colloquium presents:
Unsettling Narratives in Creative Works and Practice
December 2nd 2016 at Murdoch University, ECL3 Lecture Theatre
The theme for this year’s Colloquium will explore how readers, viewers, and creators unsettle texts, films, and performances through alternative and original perspectives.
We welcome a range of submissions with a general focus on how we interpret and/or create narrative fictions and encourage papers/showings from those engaged in traditional and non-traditional research. General topics for consideration include (but are not limited to):
- How does a ‘text’ speak to, or unsettle a reader/spectator?
- What kinds of political ‘unsettlement’ might we expect through narratives of different mediums?
- In the adaptation process, how does one medium unsettle another?
- How do we unsettle a ‘text’? For example, how do we interpret, create, and question narratives, rework or subvert canonical ‘texts’, challenge or restore traditional narrative?
The Colloquium provides the opportunity for scholars to share their work in a supportive environment and strengthen the ties between disciplines and universities.
Presentations are 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
