Mindfulness Programme for Development of Mindfulness Skills and Wellbeing

Free mindfulness training programme, with free 8GB thumbdrive and $20 cash reward for participation! We are currently seeking individuals who have previously experienced depression and/or anxiety. Normal hearing is required.

In this programme, we seek to assist you in developing skills related to making intentional choices in directing your attention towards present-moment experiences, to assist in coping with the challenges that we face in daily life. All you have to do is sit back, relax, engage in some mindfulness activities, and fill in some questionnaires. Sessions will be conducted in groups of up to eight individuals.

 

To be eligible for the current study, you will be required to:

  1. Be aged 18 and above
  2. Have normal hearing (no hearing aids!)
  3. History of depression and/or anxiety; presence of any mild to moderate symptoms of depression/anxiety is fine, but will be further assessed
  4. Understand written and spoken English (at least conversational level)
  5. Have no current engagement in psychotherapy, or willing to postpone therapy for now
  6. Stable use of psychopharmacology (medication); i.e. regular dose for at least four weeks
  7. Comfortable with being in groups of up to eight people

This study may NOT be suitable for you if:

  1. You have impaired hearing (this includes use of hearing aids)2.You have severe psychopathological disorders, and/or complex trauma, all of which render the need for more specialised and intensive psychological interventions
  2. You engage in substance and/or alcohol misuse/abuse
  3. You have current and/or ongoing self-harm, suicidal ideation or attempt (within the past 24 months)
  4. You have neurocognitive impairments resulting from organic brain injury, acquired brain injury or dementia
