Time: 18:30 PM - 20:00 PM

The Murdoch University Theology Program invites you to a series of lectures from this year's Murdoch University International Theologian Professor Amy-Jill Levine

Jesus' Parables in their Jewish Contexts

Hearing Jesus' parables through first-century Jewish ears allows us both to recover their original provocation - and to understand what they might say to twenty-first century listeners from various religious traditions.

Professor Amy-Jill Levine is a University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies, E.Rhoes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament Studies, and Professor of Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School and College of Arts and Science Nashville, Tennesse, USA. Professor Levine is also Affiliated Professor, Centre for the Study of Jewish-Christian Relations, Cambridge UK. She holds a B.A. from Smith College, M.A. and Ph.D from Duke University, and honorary doctorates from the University of Richmond, the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, the University of South Carolina-Upstate, Drury University, and Christian Theological Seminary.

Professor Levine is a member of an Orthodox Jewish Synagogue, although she says she is quite unorthodox.
