JET - Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme - On-Campus Information Session Date: 27th September 2013 Time: 00:30 AM - 01:30 AM Location: The Hill Lecture Theatre (Education and Humanities), South Street Campus The JET Programme is aimed at promoting grass-roots international exchange between Japan and other countries. Types of Positions Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) ALTs are placed mainly in schools and boards of education. ALTs assistand team teach with Japanese teachers of language (JTL) and are thusinvolved in the preparation of teaching materials and in extracurricularactivities like English clubs or sports teams. More than 90% of JETparticipants are appointed as ALTs. Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) Those with a functional command of the Japanese language can workas CIRs, placed in local government offices or international exchangeorganisations. CIRs work for local government assisting withinternational exchange activities in a variety of ways that may includetranslation, interpretation, editing and producing pamphlets andadvising and planning international activities. Sports Exchange Advisors SEAs are appointed by local governments to coach and promoteinternationalisation through the universal language of sport. SEAs aresports professionals whose roles are to assist with sports training and theplanning of sports-related projects.
