Smart Freeway - Kwinana Freeway overnight closures in mid Jan 2020

Published: 17th December 2019

Jointly funded by the Australian and State Governments, Perth’s first Smart Freeway will be fully operational by mid-2020.

Kwinana Freeway closures-300 x 420

It will increase road capacity, reduce stop-start conditions and improve journey times on the Kwinana Freeway northbound, between Farrington Road and the Narrows Bridge.

To complete required works, there will be overnight freeway closures from 12 January 2020. To minimise inconvenience to road users, sections of the Kwinana Freeway northbound (including on-ramps) will be closed at night between 10pm and 5am, from Sunday to Thursday, starting from Sunday, 12 January.

These overnight closures will allow for the safe installation of large overhead signs across all traffic lanes and reduce disruption associated with resurfacing works for the Smart Freeway – Kwinana Northbound project.

The closures will only affect northbound traffic between Leach Highway and the Narrows Bridge.

Closure dates and times

The following closures have been scheduled by Main Roads:

  • Sunday, 12 January to Thursday, 30 January*, excluding Sunday 26 January for Australia Day Skyworks, 10pm-5am: Canning Highway to Mill Point Road.

  • Sunday, 16 February to Thursday, 20 February*, 11pm-5am: Leach Highway to Manning Road.
