To recognise our commitment to improving gender equity and diversity, we have successfully secured Athena SWAN Bronze Accreditation as part of the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) initiative.
Athena SWAN is an internationally recognised program striving to improve gender equity in the higher education and research sector, particularly in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) disciplines. STEMM areas continue to be under-represented by women, so the Bronze accreditation puts us on the path towards a more diverse, inclusive and equitable workforce.
To further support this commitment to improving gender equity and diversity, we’ve been busy implementing University-wide initiatives, such as the new facilities designed specifically for parents at our Perth campus. At these facilities, located at the Base (under the Student Hub) and the Library, staff and students can change, feed and play with their children.
Students with children may also be interested in the new Murdoch Parents Network, where all student-parents are encouraged to join in and share information with other student-parents who also have young children.
On Thursday 5th March, keep an eye out for International Women’s Day celebrations on Bush Court, where we’ll be recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
While there’s still much to do, as we move further into 2020 we look forward to sharing more updates and initiatives with you as work to address gaps in gender equity.
