There is no question - Western Australia is one of the safest places to be in the world right now. The same applies for Murdoch University, where we have followed Government advice closely to ensure we keep all our students safe.
We understand COVID-19 has been especially challenging for international students and I want to reassure you we are doing everything we can to prepare for a safe return of face-to-face campus activities and give you the best university experience possible.
On-campus facilities
We are now opening many on-campus facilities so you can access face-to-face support and meet with friends.
The Murdoch Library, myMurdoch Advice and The Student Centre are already open, with physical distancing measures in place to ensure your safety. More campus facilities will open in coming weeks and our hope is that, even if you are accessing classes online, you will still be spending time on our beautiful campus. You can read our article for the most up-to-date advice about on-campus facilities.
Semester 2 on-campus classes
I’m pleased to let you know most Semester 2 classes will return to campus as soon as possible, in line with Government advice. Some classes will run online until this is possible. There will also be many online class options for students who are unable to attend campus next semester.
Class sign up opens Wednesday 3 June, and I encourage you to finalise your unit enrolment and select your class timetable to be best prepared for Semester 2. It is important to maintain a full-time enrolment and choose internal units. This is to ensure your study plan and path to completion remain on track during these uncertain times, as well as ensuring consistency with visa requirements.
If you would like to talk to someone about your study options, our International Student Specialists can provide you with advice. You can visit our myMurdoch Advice West location to chat to someone in person (or get in touch via advice@murdoch.edu.au if this is easier).
Our commitment that your studies will not be disadvantaged by COVID-19 is unwavering. That’s why our Academic Safety Net will continue to protect your Grade Point Average (GPA) in Semester 2, 2020, allowing you to focus on achieving the best possible grades.
On-campus options for the semester break
We are currently planning a calendar of on-campus activities and events to keep you connected with friends and help you stay active throughout the semester break. We will release more information in the coming weeks.
Support and advice
We encourage you to speak with our friendly Advisors and International Student Specialists at our myMurdoch Advice West location about your study options or further support, including the Student Support Package.
The Guild Student Assist team is also available to provide you with support and advice for your studies, including financial and welfare assistance.
Kind regards,
Mr Kelly Smith
