International student support during lockdown

Published: 3rd February 2021

Dear students,

woman-in-gray-sweater-sitting-on-wooden-

By now you would likely be aware of the closure of our West Australian campuses as a result of the five-day lockdown currently in place for the areas of Perth, Peel and the South West.

As an international student, we empathise with your unique situation in not only being far away from your family and loved ones, but the obstacles and struggles you may be facing due to the lockdown.

We wanted to let you know that that we’re here to help and support you throughout this challenging time and that there are a range of support services available for you to utilise during this period.

If you require any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with myMurdoch Advice at advice@murdoch.edu.au

Support and advice

During lockdown, you can continue to seek support through the usual University support and advice channels, with a range of services being offered online.

The Student Support team are available for you to reach out to for advice and guidance on a range of course and personal issues through StudentSupport@murdoch.edu.au

Should you require any medical assistance, the Medical Centre is open for either telehealth appointments or face to face appointments (where it’s appropriate to do so). Screening measures are in place and our staff are all trained in infection control.

Murdoch’s Counselling Service also remains open, with all appointments being provided through Zoom (online) or telephone calls.  Please call 9360 1227 or visit out website for appointments.

Food Bank

The Guild’s Foodbank will be operating on an appointment basis, organised through Student Assist studentassist@murdochguild.com.au We urge you to make an appointment, should you find yourself in need of their assistance or have lost income due to the lockdown.

StudyPerth Crisis Relief

The StudyPerth Crisis Relief (SPCR) program is available for international students who are in immediate emergency need of food or shelter as a result of the lockdown and COVID-19. To apply for the SPCR, you are required to submit an application form.

Please visit the StudyPerth website for more information.

COVID-19 Coronavirus: Lockdown information in other languages

If you are struggling to understand the lockdown advice being provided to you, the WA Government have now introduced translated lockdown resources.

These resources are being uploaded as the translations are completed and you can find them in pdf format on the WA Government website.

The Murdoch community has always been strong and resilient. One way we have achieved this is through communication. Please stay up to date on developments via official university communications via the student portal, your emails and our social media channels so you are across any updates as soon as they are  announced.

Please check on each other, and more importantly, reach out for support when needed. We are all in this together and you are an important part of our WA community.

Yours sincerely,

Kelly Smith
Pro Vice Chancellor – International
