Assessing your eligibility

The Australian Government is implementing the vaccination program in a phased priority approach, as increasing supplies becomes available. Doses are currently limited to high priority groups.

We encourage all students located within Australia to refer to the Department of Health Eligibility Checker to assess your eligibility for the vaccine. The tracker provides specific details regarding eligibility, as well as the evidence you will be required to provide when booking an appointment.

As the rollout continues, and you become eligible to be vaccinated, you will be able to visit your GP and receive your dose to help protect yourself and the community against the spread of COVID-19.

Getting the vaccine – costs and locations

The COVID-19 vaccine is voluntary and free to all Australians and eligible visa holders, inclusive of international students.

While we encourage all students and staff to have the vaccine when eligible, please note that, in accordance with government direction, it is not mandatory to have the vaccine for entry or study in any of our courses.

For the moment, international onshore students who are eligible for the vaccine in Phase 1b must attend a respiratory clinic for their vaccination. We are monitoring Government advice and will let you know when international students are able to access GPs and medical centres for the vaccine.

If you’re a domestic student eligible under Phase 1byou can attend any venue listed for the vaccine under the eligibility checker. All COVID vaccine appointments will be bulk billed for Medicare card holders, so there shouldn't be any out-of-pocket costs. Please remember to check your Medicare details are up to date, and to bring your Medicare card with you to your appointment. If you have a current health care card from Centrelink, you should also bring this to your appointment.

If you have specific questions about the vaccine or appointment charges, please contact your healthcare provider directly.

Vaccinations on campus – Murdoch University Medical Service

The Murdoch University Medical Service has been approved to administer the COVID-19 vaccine on campus, as part of Phase 1b of the national rollout program.

Their online booking system allows eligible domestic students and staff to book an appointment to be vaccinated from 5 April 2021.

A reminder that, for the moment, international onshore students who are eligible for the vaccine in Phase 1b must attend a respiratory clinic for their vaccination, rather than GPs or medical centres.

However, in accordance with government approved allocations, vaccination supply through the Murdoch Medical Service will be limited. So, we encourage you to consider booking through your GP or one of the other sites listed in the eligibility checker.

More information about times, dates and how to book at the Murdoch University Medical Service will be made available through the student portal in due course.
