Transforming the collection of student information

Published: 26th March 2021

The Australian Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE) and Services Australia (formerly the Department of Human Services) have been working with education providers, including Murdoch University, to transform how student information is collected.

This project is called Transforming the Collection of Student Information (TCSI), and it aims to use new technologies to simplify how Tertiary Student Information is collected, reduce duplication and improve data quality, timeliness and availability.

How does this benefit me?

TCSI aims to improvthe processing and the frequency of information that’s provided to the Government to enhance your student experience.

This includes simplifying any claims you make to Services Australiaincluding Centrelink Youth Allowance and Austudy. It will also improve the accuracy and ongoing maintenance of these payments.

For example, your enrolment information will be pre-populated when you make an online claim, so you simply need to check if the enrolment information is correct and answer the remaining questions.

Similarly, changes to your enrolment such as reducing your study load will be more frequently reported, so there is less of a chance of being overpaid and subsequently receiving a debt.
