This decision has carefully considered to help to ensure the health and wellbeing of our community and aligns with decisions being made by other universities across Australia.
International travel
All outbound student international travel is suspended until at least 1 December 2021.
This decision has been made in line with the Australian Government’s ongoing ban on overseas travel due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, where all international countries continue to be rated as ‘Do Not Travel’ for the foreseeable future.
We understand this will be extremely disappointing news to students who had hoped to embark on an overseas study experience in 2021. We encourage you to explore the virtual study abroad opportunities on offer before the end of the year. You can join the Murdoch Outbound LMS community or email studyabroad@murdoch.edu.au to find out more.
If you’re currently residing overseas, you can request special approval for University-related travel more than 100 kilometres from your current location, but only if it is essential for your course progression or research activity completion and no suitable alternatives exist. Strict conditions apply, so please contact workplacements@murdoch.edu.au to find out if you qualify.
Interstate travel
Additionally, the restrictions on interstate University travel have been extended until at least 1 July 2021.
This decision has been made considering the recent COVID-19 transmissions within the hotel quarantine system, as well as the advice that the COVID-19 vaccination program is not expected to eliminate the COVID-19 transmission risk for some time.
You can request a special exemption to travel interstate for Work Integrated Learning (WIL) activities, but only if the activity is essential for your course progression and no suitable alternatives exist. Strict conditions apply, so please contact workplacements@murdoch.edu.au to find out if you qualify.
Intrastate travel (travel within WA)
Intrastate travel for University purposes continues to be subject to approval. Please contact workplacements@murdoch.edu.au if you are considering intrastate travel for University purposes.
Additional information
There will continue to be no provision of University insurance arrangements for any staff or student member who undertakes travel for personal reasons or breaches the decisions outlined above.
