COVID-19 Update: 26 April 2021

Published: 26th April 2021

Dear students,

This message contains important information about the University’s COVID-19 response and your studies this week, so please read carefully.

The Western Australian Government has announced that from 12.01am, Tuesday 27 April, the current lockdown will be replaced by post-lockdown interim restrictions for the Perth and Peel regions. These will remain in place until at least 12:01am Saturday 1 May.

The post-lockdown transitional arrangements include:

  • Universities may deliver online learning only – this means there will be no on-campus learning activities this week.
  • Everyone must continue to wear a mask in public unless exempt or for outdoor vigorous exercise.

The Government’s full announcement can be read online.

Classes and assessments

As mentioned above, the WA Government has advised Universities may deliver online learning only until at least 12:01am Saturday 1 May – this means there will be no on-campus learning activities this week.

Information about the specific arrangements for your units will be communicated to you by your Unit Coordinators via LMS (myMurdoch Learning).

This advice will include online teaching arrangements for the week, as well as arrangements for any classes or assessments that cannot be replicated online this week.

Please ensure you check the LMS page for each of your units for the latest updates.

Campus services and support

The Student Centre, all myMurdoch Advice locations and the Library will remain closed this week. Support is available over phone and email.

You can find out more about the support you can access online from both the University and Guild.

If you need immediate personal support during this time, after-hours and 24-hour crisis services are available.

Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements can take place as planned unless advised otherwise by Murdoch University or your host organisation. Please ensure you are checking your emails for the latest advice.

If you are attending a placement, you must follow all mandated government disease protection measures.

Similarly, all Work Integrated Learning (WIL) students must adhere to Government advice around travelling in and out of the Perth and Peel region, and ensure you are carrying the appropriate documentation as outlined by the WA Government.

You must also follow any additional requirements and direction implemented by the Murdoch WIL Placement team and your host organisation provider. This includes the completion of the WIL COVID-19 Declaration Form, which was provided to you prior to your placement.

Vaccinations

If you have booked an influenza or COVID vaccination, you should attend the clinic at the time you are booked to have your vaccination.

Research

If you are a higher degree by research (HDR) student, you must seek University approval via your supervisor before recommencing research on campus.

On-campus research will be approved for the following reasons only:

  • Essential research maintenance such as feeding animals, watering research plants, maintaining research equipment.
  • Time-critical research where postponement is not possible.

Researchers should only return to campus for approved purposes and not until University approval has been provided.

Campus safety

The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.

Before returning to campus, students and staff must be familiar with the individual actions we can all take to keep our community safe and healthy.

These include wearing a mask and scanning the sign-posted venue QR code upon entry to campus venues using the SafeWA mobile app.

It is mandatory to scan the SafeWA QR code at the entry to food outlets (or fill in the register), even for takeaway-only customers.

Next steps

The University’s Critical Incident Management Team continues to meet regularly and monitor health advice and will continue to do so throughout this week.

Please continue to check your emails, unit LMS pages and the student portal for the latest advice and updates.

The University will provide you with further information relating to your studies as soon as Government advice allows it.

We also encourage you to monitor the WA Heath website for updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for supporting our community’s health and safety during these challenging times, and the University is looking forward to seeing you all back on campus as soon as possible.
