Murdoch University, Project Hiu and Madison Stewart (aka ‘Shark Girl’ Madison) invite you to participate in a virtual mobility project in Semester 2, 2021 ‘The Eco-Economy Project - Protecting Livelihoods Above and Below the Surface’.

Supported by the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant Program, Murdoch University and Project Hiu have teamed up to offer a unique 3 credit point general elective unit for Murdoch University Undergraduate Students.

Designed to meet the needs identified by Project Hiu, the virtual mobility project's focus is dedicated to shark protection through creating alternative income streams and business opportunities for shark fishermen and the wider community on Maringkik Island, Lombok.

What can you expect?

Guided and supported by Murdoch discipline and project partner Project Hiu, students will work in teams to invent and design business models to meet an identified real need, opportunity or problem.

Virtual engagement with:

  • Project Hiu and the crew
  • Industry and academic experts in the field
  • Indonesia community members

Who is this for:

The project is funded by the Australian Federal Government. Therefore only eligible students are able to apply. To participate, you need to:

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Are enrolled in a Murdoch University undergraduate degree
  • Have completed at least 24 credit points
  • Have a General Elective left in your degree, which counts towards the core requirements of your course. Please note that you are unable to take part in this project if it is in addition to your core requirements.

Conditions may apply if you have received a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant in the past. Please contact us if you have questions about your eligibility.

Students from any discipline area are welcome!

Cost:

  • The project is funded by the Australian Federal Government, therefore the cost for participation in the project is free of charge
  • You will be enrolled into a Murdoch University Business shell unit BUS3451, however can defer the unit cost onto HECS as per normal.

Timing:

  • Semester 2 2021
  • Weekly, from 26 July to 15 October

  • Your name
  • Your student ID
  • Your course of study
  • How BUS3451 can credit towards your degree (e.g. as a general elective); if you’re unsure about credit, please contact your academic chair
