Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placement arrangements

Published: 23rd June 2021

With ongoing uncertainty around Australia’s state and national border arrangements, a decision has been made to extend the University’s travel restrictions until at least 1 October 2021. This decision supports our compliance and safety requirements and will help to ensure the health and wellbeing of our community.

For students, this means no University travel is to be requested, approved, booked or recorded before 1 October 2021, unless an exemption has been endorsed by the University’s leadership team. Student requests to travel interstate for Work Integrated Learning (WIL) activities may continue to be considered for approval by CIMT Chair if all the following conditions are met:

  • The proposed WIL activity is essential for student progression and no suitable alternatives exist.
  • The proposed WIL activity will occur in a ‘very low risk’ state or territory as determined by the Western Australian Government.
  • The participating student agrees to follow all COVID-19 safety requirements as directed by the Western Australian Government, as well as the destination state or territory.
  • The traveller accepts that the COVID-19 situation is subject to change, no COVID-19 related claims can be made under the University’s travel policy and approval to travel may be revoked by the University at any time.
  • A consolidated business case from the relevant Head of Discipline supporting the proposed WIL activity is provided to the Work Integrated Learning Lead which includes the following:
    • An explanation of why the WIL activity is essential for student progression and no suitable alternatives existing with WA; and
    • A list of the participating students and units involved.
  • The activity is endorsed by Work Integrated Learning lead.
  • Submission of the travel request (with relevant documents attached demonstrating compliance with the points above) is provided to CIMT Chair via the Senior Travel Supervisor for in-principal approval.
  • A travel request, outlining the above-stated information and acceptances, is submitted via Trobexis for CIMT Chair approval.
