Important update on COVID-19 - 29 June 2021

Published: 29th June 2021

Dear Students,

lockdown 300 x 420

Please read this email in full. It contains important information relating to Murdoch University’s COVID-19 response.

The WA Government has announced a four-day lockdown for the Perth and Peel regions commencing from 12.01am, Tuesday 29 June 2021, following another confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Perth community.

The restrictions will apply until at least 12.01am on Saturday, 3 July 2021.  Subsequently, Murdoch’s campuses will be closed except for essential food and takeaway venues that choose to stay open. All internal and external events this week are cancelled.

The Government has advised that people in the Perth and Peel region are required to stay at home and work from home unless they must leave home for essential reasons.

Classes and Assessments

As a result of the lockdown, all learning and teaching activities will revert to online for the remainder of this week.  Affected students will be notified shortly.

Information about the specific arrangements for your units will be communicated to you by your Unit Coordinators via LMS (myMurdoch Learning).

This advice will include online teaching arrangements for the week, as well as arrangements for any classes or assessments that cannot be replicated online this week.

Please ensure you check the LMS page for each of your units for the latest updates.

All Workplace Integrated Learning (WIL) is suspended, unless you are advised that you are undertaking an allied health services clinical placement that is approved to continue as notified by the placement provider and / or the WIL Team.

Research

If you are a higher degree by research (HDR) student, you must seek University approval via your supervisor before recommencing research on campus.

On-campus research will be approved for the following reasons only:

  • Essential research maintenance such as feeding animals, watering research plants, maintaining research equipment.
  • Time-critical research where postponement is not possible.

Researchers should only return to campus for approved purposes and not until University approval has been provided. If you have any concerns regarding your research please direct this to your supervisory team.

Campus services and support

The Student Centre, all myMurdoch Advice locations and the Library will remain closed this week. Support is available over phone and email.

You can find out more about the support you can access online from both the University and Guild.

If you need immediate personal support during this time, after-hours and 24-hour crisis services are available.

Next steps

The University’s Critical Incident Management Team continues to meet regularly and monitor health advice and will continue to do so throughout this week.

Please continue to check your emails, unit LMS pages and the student portal for the latest advice and updates.

The University will provide you with further information relating to your studies as soon as Government advice allows it.

Please note, if you have been at any of these sites at the times specified you need to follow the advice of the WA Department of Health.

We also encourage you to monitor the WA Heath website for updates as more information becomes available.

We thank you for your patience during this time. We will continue to update you as the situation evolves.
