To affirm the University’s commitment to countering foreign interference, Murdoch has created a Foreign Interference Policy, in line with university sector guidance and a new government legislative requirement.

The policy has been designed so that we can engage safely and securely with international partners and stakeholders in pursuit of our research, teaching and engagement objectives. 

It will not stifle global engagement and international collaboration. Instead, it provides Murdoch with guidance and tools to help staff carefully select and manage international arrangements, so that we can safeguard our research discoveries, academic standing and reputation.

As outlined in the Policy, students are encouraged to:

• Understand what foreign interference is, the impacts, how it can occur in universities and the warning signs.

• Read Australian Government's Online Networking Guide Brochure, and (if further info is needed) the Online Networking Guide Booklet. 

• Follow Murdoch's travel safety and security guidance to mitigate foreign interference risks before, during and after travel.

• Read what social engineering threats could arise from foreign actors in a university environment, and how Murdoch can protect itself from such threats. 

• Know how to raise foreign interference concerns to the University’s Audit & Risk Management Officer via the University's Foreign Contact Concern Report.
