Student Art Exhibition: What's Wrong With Getting Better? Moving Beyond Efficiency

Date: 10th October 2013
Time: 08:00 AM - 22:00 PM

Location: South Street Library - Level 3

What scope does the concept of efficiency hold in moving us towards a sustainable future? Must economic prosperity and environmental degradation go hand in hand? What IS wrong with 'getting better'? Explore these questions and your own responses to them through an exhibition of creative works now on display in the South St Library.

The exhibition is open from the 10th – 24th of October during library opening hours - Monday to Thursday 8.00am – 10.00pm; Friday 8.00am – 6.00pm; Saturday & Sunday 10.00am – 5.00pm.

Heading towards a more sustainable future is a challenge that requires action on all levels, from the global right down to individual. It asks us to think and act differently – co-operatively, innovatively, laterally and creatively. It also calls for stepping outside of existing models of development to approach business, industry, policy, governance and community-building in new and creative ways- ways which ‘decouple’ economic prosperity and environmental degradation.

This year, students from the unit ENV212/512: Global and Regional Sustainability have put together creative artworks that explore the theme What’s Wrong With Getting Better?: Moving Beyond Efficiency. Each student has been involved in creating a piece which responds to the question of what ‘efficiency’ offers the sustainability and the challenge of exploring what lies beyond its borders.

The exhibition, spread across Level 3 in the Murdoch University Library, will run from Thursday 10th October to Thursday 24th October 2012, during Murdoch University Library opening hours: Monday to Thursday 8.00am – 10.00pm; Friday 8.00am – 6.00pm; Saturday & Sunday 10.00am – 5.00pm.

We all have a part to play in tackling global environmental issues and in the creation of a sustainable future, so come along to visit during the two weeks that it is open, and explore your own response to this global environmental issue through this collection of passionate creative works.
