What is STEPtember?
STEPtember is a virtual event that challenges you to walk, swim, ride, wheel or spin your way to 10,000 steps per day during the month of September – all while helping to improve the lives of children and adults who live with cerebral palsy.
In Australia alone, it’s estimated that every 20 hours an Australian child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. By stepping up, participating and raising money and awareness you’re supporting programs that help support people living with cerebral palsy.??
Get involved with Murdoch University?
This is the second year that the University’s participated in STEPtember. Not only is smashing step counts a great way to enjoy the fresh air and stretch those legs – it’s is a great way for everyone, including staff and students, to get involved. Most forms of physical activity can be converted to steps that can be tracked via the STEPtember website app. See below for instructions on how to register or visit the STEPtember website for more details.
Discover your campus???
You may not realise it, but just by walking to classes or cruising through campus with a teammate at lunch, you can quickly accumulate steps. We’ve done the calculation for you, and it takes 12 minutes to walk from Bang Bang Speciality Coffee by the Library to The Animal Hospital. If you’re a fast walker, those 12 minutes equate to over 1,000 steps at 100 steps per minute!?
Murdoch University’s gym also has a new class on offer for those interested in meeting new people or learning more about Murdoch’s campus. Called Walk or Run on Campus, or W.O.R.C for short, you’ll be guided by an instructor on a mapped-out 5km track – all while enjoying the campus. Alternatively, why not join in a ‘Know Your Campus’ walking tour, such as the Spring Wildflower Tour and get those steps up!
Go in the draw to win great prizes??
We’ve got an awesome gym open to the public, staff and students right on campus.
