Wellbeing Wednesdays

Published: 30th August 2021

Come and join us at the Base in the Winter Garden from 10:30am – 2:30pm each Wednesday!

The Access, Wellbeing & Equity (AWE) Team has launched the ‘Pop Up’ Wellbeing Wednesdays. It is a safe space on campus, which promotes a healthy mind, body, and spirit are foundations for students to achieve their personal and academic goals.

Through the Wellbeing Wednesdays, you will be able to connect with trained staff, and our new Student Wellbeing and Equity Ambassadors, to navigate campus wellbeing-related services and learn more about health topics and wellness resources. You will gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enhance personal as well as collective wellbeing from the below weekly activities:

Healthy Lifestyle Consults (until 12:30pm)

Take advantage of a brief and free consultation with our registered nurse to improve lifestyle, prevent ill health, establish a holistic approach to meet your health goals and improve wellbeing.

Therapy Dogs

If you're feeling a little stressed or missing your own pet back home, stop by for a pat or a cuddle with our Therapy Dogs.

SlowTV mindfulness

Take a moment to relax, unwind or meditate with our on campus Slow TV. An antidote to the fast pace of modern life, Slow TV is an ideal way to enhance mindfulness and focus. It can also help you to relax while you study.

Tea Corner

People all over the world have been drinking tea for thousands of centuries, and for good reason. Numerous studies have shown that a variety of teas may boost your immune system, fight off inflammation, and even ward off cancer and heart disease. While some brews provide more health advantages than others, there’s plenty of evidence that regularly drinking tea can have a lasting impact on your wellness. Put the kettle on, because we’re sharing some of the biggest benefits hidden in the world’s most popular teas.

Essential Oils Corner

Inhaling the aromas from essential oils can stimulate areas of your limbic system, which is a part of your brain that plays a role in emotions, behaviours, sense of smell, and long-term memory. Interestingly, the limbic system is heavily involved in forming memories. This can partly explain why familiar smells can trigger memories or emotions. The limbic system also plays a role in controlling several unconscious physiological 10:30 – 14:30 functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. As such, some people claim that essential oils can exert a physical effect on your body. Come try some of our selection of Essential Oils and stimulate your senses.

Community Garden Corner

Help yourselves to FREE fresh fruits and vegetables, grown locally on our South Street campus, in our communal garden beds and wicking beds.

Creative Art Corner

Art relieves stress, encourages creative thinking, boosts selfesteem, eases the burden of some mental health conditions and then some. Drop in and let your creativity flow with our Creative Art Corner, full of art and craft supplies for your mindfulness and enjoyment. The Creative Art Corner is brought to you via a collaboration with our Team from Creative Arts Therapies.
