Policy seminar with The Hon Fred Chaney, AO Date: 26th March 2014 Time: 12:30 PM - 14:00 PM Location: South Street Campus Sir Walter Murdoch School of Public Policy and International Affairs invites you to a policy seminar with The Honourable Fred Chaney, AO titled "Is the governance of governments fit for purpose in remote Australia?" Mr Chaney was born in Perth in 1941. After graduating from UWA, he practiced law in New Guinea and Western Australia with an emphasis on mining issues until he entered the Senate in 1974. Mr Chaney was also involved in the Aboriginal Legal Service in a voluntary capacity in the early 1970s. He was a Senator for WA until 1990 and was Leader of the Opposition in the Senate from 1983 to 1990. He was Member for Pearce in the House of Representatives from 1990 to 1993. Among his Ministerial appointments in the Fraser Government were Aboriginal Affairs, Social Security and Minister Assisting the Minister for National Development and Energy. After leaving Parliament he undertook new responsibilities in Aboriginal Affairs policy, a field in which he has a wide-ranging and ongoing involvement. He was Chancellor of Murdoch University from 1995 until 2003.
