Tree Planting on World Environment Day

Date: 05th June 2014
Time: 09:00 AM - 13:00 PM

Location: Murdoch University’s South Street Campus, East side of student village - RSVP for details.

The rains of autumn and winter herald the start of Murdoch University’s popular native shrub and tree planting programme. Join us on Thursday, 5 June for World Environment Day to plant a new wildlife corridor on campus and do your bit for the environment. Tools and training will be provided and friends and family are welcome. A BBQ lunch will be provided to all volunteers, so RSVPs are essential.

On Thursday 5 June (World Environment Day), we’ll be planting native trees, shrubs and herbs along the East side of Student Village, extending the existing wildlife corridor which starts on the North side of the Chelodina Wetland. These plantings will provide long-term roosting, nesting and feeding habitat for endangered black cockatoos and a ‘commuting’ linkage for quendas and other wildlife.

Come help us plant 1,000 trees and shrubs in our native bushland on campus.  Enjoy a morning in a beautiful part of the campus you may not even know exists, meet new friends and gain new skills. Students can count their planting time towards the 40 hours required to have the ‘Environmental Management’ volunteer program recorded on their Community and Career Skills Development Transcript: http://handbook.murdoch.edu.au/study/?section=volunteer

Please wear closed-in shoes, dress for the weather and BYO water bottle.  Children under 16 years old must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

Another planting day to book in your diary will be held on Saturday 21 June 2014 in the Banksia Woodland.  Both events will be hosted by the Murdoch Environmental Restoration Group (MERG) in conjunction with Campus and Facilities Management Office (CFMO).  RSVP’s essential for catering purposes and for information on the planting location.

Contact Veronica Ingrilli from MERG or Leah Knapp from CFMO to RSVP: v.ingrilli@hotmail.com or l.knapp@murdoch.edu.au.
