Agriculture, Food, Water & Energy Nexus

Join us for this discussion about the role of biotechnology in addressing the need for food, water and energy security for a growing global population. With presentations from a range of industry experts and a lively panel discussion, this event will explore global issues within a local context.

Richard Hudson, Content Director Rural – ABC Rural
Richard joined ABC's Rural team in WA in 2000. He started in Perth, worked briefly in Geraldton and then had a six month stint in Victoria's Goulburn/Murray region.He then spent almost eight years in Cairns doing the North Queensland Rural Report, where he met some fascinating people who taught him how to plant sugar-cane, eat rollinias, catch beche-de-mer (sea cucumber) hand milk a cow and survive a category five cyclone. In 2007 Richard was appointed Executive Producer of Rural WA.

Professor Richard Harper, Chair in Sustainable Water Management - Murdoch University
Richard's current focus is on developing land-use systems that ensure water sustainability in the Peel, a rapidly growing region in Western Australia. His research interests revolve around improving water yields and protecting water quality through improved land management, and developing policies and land-use systems that will achieve change over large areas. He has worked on using reforestation and carbon mitigation to overcome salinity, a major issue in inland Australia, and was recently selected as a lead author in the next IPCC Assessment Report.
