Senate Medal Nominations Closing at 4pm Today
posted 17 March 2015 | Staff Announcement - (staff)
Nominations will close for the award of Senate Medals for 2014 at 4.00pm today, Tuesday 17 March 2015.
The Senate Medal is an award, established in 1997, recognising exceptional service to the University by persons for whom other forms of recognition, such as the award of an honorary degree, are inappropriate.
Up to three Senate Medals may be awarded annually and one of these may be to a team of two or more nominees. The Medals are awarded on the basis of one or more of the following criteria:
- consistently outstanding performance by a member or members of staff in a work area, or several areas, within the University;
- significant innovation or demonstrated improvements in university work practices;
- outstanding service to the University community;
- outstanding contribution to general community services, to the benefit of the University or on behalf of the University;
- length of association with the University, together with a significant contribution to it.
In general, the awards will be based on the extent to which the work or achievement of the nominees reflects excellence beyond the normal call of duty. In making the awards, emphasis will also be placed on demonstrated excellence, with specific and concrete examples of achievement.
All persons associated with the University are eligible, provided that, at the time of nomination the nominee’s association has extended over a period of at least five years.
To nominate a person or team for a 2014 Senate Medal please fill out the nomination form. It must be accompanied by a detailed supporting statement, which addresses one or more of the criteria listed above. The nomination must also be supported by a statement from a second person from one of the categories specified for nominators (i.e. members of the Senate, supervisors, colleagues and students). Other statements of informed support may also be submitted. A list of previous recipients is available here.
Please email your completed form to Lynette Darnell at l.darnell@murdoch.edu.au.
The Honorary Awards and Ceremonial Committee will treat all nominations confidentially.
