Help us transform your empty water bottles into recycled art

posted 17 March 2015 | Staff Announcement - (staff)

Murdoch University is proud to partner with Sunset Events at the upcoming West Coast Blues n Roots festival. As part of our sponsorship activities at the festival, we will be holding Spinning Flower workshops, run by environmental science students and we need your empty plastic bottles and corks to make it happen!

The spinning flowers are made from recycled plastic drinking bottles, mounted on corks and a metre long fibreglass rod. The plastic bottles are cut into flowers which spin in the wind and festival-goers will be able to decorate their own flowers with acrylic paints. The project promotes sustainability, the value of recycling and conservation of Western Australian wildflowers, with examples of pre-made spinning flowers decorated to represent WA wildflowers forming a part of our ground display.

You can help us create a garden of spinning flowers at the festival by recycling your unwanted plastic bottles and corks in the special festival recycling bins located in the Communications Office (Senate Building Room 1.001, just off Bush Court near the old Bank West) at the South Street Campus weekdays between 8:30am-4:30pm.
