Did you know the Carnaby and Forest Red Tailed Black Cockatoos may be extinct within 15 years

posted 31 March 2015 | Staff Announcement - (staff)

The good news is there is something you can do to help! Data from the Great Cocky Count survey taking place on 12 April 2015 here at Murdoch helps shape conservation actions on campus and in the Perth metro area.

Volunteers are still needed for the survey on Murdoch University’s South Street campus. The Murdoch campus is a ‘Super Roost’ for the endangered Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo and the Forest Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo. Data from the survey helps shape conservation actions on campus and in the Perth metro area.

If you missed the recent training sessions, don’t worry - your participation is still valuable!  If you can count, your participation helps the largest citizen science project in Australia and helps us determine endangered black cockatoo conservation strategies on campus.

RSVPs are essential.  To sign up for the Great Cocky Count on Sunday, 12 April here at Murdoch University, please RSVP by contacting Birdlife Australia via email on greatcockycount@birdlife.org.au.

For more information on the Great Cocky Count, or to sign up for a roost survey in your own neighbourhood, please check out Birdlife Australia WA’s Great Cocky Count webpage.
