Curriculum@Murdoch: Call for feedback

posted 14 April 2015 | Staff Announcement - (staff)

The Curriculum@Murdoch Project is led by the Acting Provost and Academic Registrar and aims to redesign academic planning and related business processes and policies.

Please take the time to read and provide feedback on the Draft Principles to Guide Development of Policy and Procedures.

Comments should be returned by Friday 1 May 2015.

The Project contributes directly to the achievement of two of the stated aims of the University Learning and Teaching Strategy: supporting curriculum design; and, streamlining administrative processes.

The three core objectives of the project are to:

  1. Facilitate best practice in curriculum design and development
  2. Reduce the administrative burden on academic staff and improve process efficiency
  3. Ensure that relevant, complete, accurate and timely information is available to students, future students and staff

Please take the time to read the Draft Principles to Guide Development of Policy and Procedures.  This document, and its attachment, a description of phases in the proposed curriculum cycle, will form the basis of revised policy, procedures and business processes.

This document marks an important milestone in the project and represents the collaborative input of over 60 staff who participated in the First Round of project workshops in December 2014.  Participants were selected to be representative of a range of interests in curriculum and related processes and included unit coordinators, academic chairs, Associate Deans Learning and Teaching, L&T leaders, process and systems administrators and professional managers.

The Second Round of project consultation included “sense-checking” of early drafts with 35 staff representing a selection of staff users of curriculum and related processes.  Across seven small group sessions and 10 semi-structured conversations, the attached documents were refined and redrafted to reflect the feedback and advice of interested parties.

This Third Round of project consultation is intended to cast the net of consultation more broadly to feed in to the detail of policy drafting and business process design.  The following formal opportunities for feedback/consultation are planned for April:

  • 14 April 2015 – University wide call for feedback
  • 16 April 2015 - University Learning and Teaching Committee discussion and comment on draft principles
  • 28 April 2015 - Academic Courses Announcement and Admission Committee discussion and comment on draft principles
  • 28 April 2015 - Dean’s Group discussion and comment on draft principles

At this point we would be very grateful for your feedback on the Draft Principles to Guide Development of Policy and Procedures

Please return any comments to the Academic Registrar, Carolyn McInnis (c.mcinnis@murdoch.edu.au) or the MUCC Curriculum Manager, Paul Comiskey (p.comiskey@murdoch.edu.au) by Friday 1 May 2015.

Further opportunities to provide input to policy, procedures and business processes will occur in due course and will be subject to normal university governance and consultation.

Thank you all for your patience while we got to this point, we look forward to your collaboration and input as we make the next step to draft policy and define new business processes.

Carolyn McInnis

Academic Registrar
