Computing Security
posted 11 August 2015 | Staff Announcement - (staff)
Commencing on 12 August 2015 the Library and Information Services team will be implementing ongoing enhancements to our IT security measures.
The goal is to improve protection for Murdoch University staff and students from increasing internet, email and other IT security threats.
These enhancements will encompass systems, services and equipment such as desktop computers. Most upgrades will be seamless, running in the background, but some will be visible to you.
Initial focus areas are:
1) Upgrades to Anti-virus and Malware threat protection on staff desktop and notebook computers.
2) Upgrades to Virus, Malware and Spam (Email) threat protection on enterprise email services.
3) Internet (browsing) based threat protection.
4) Retirement of high risk / end of life operating systems like MS Windows XP and Server 2003
5) Social engineering / Phishing attacks (Security related information and tips for staff)
Some of these enhancements may require action from you to implement but most will be seamless and unrecognisable to the majority of staff. If you have any questions regarding upcoming security enhancements please contact the IT Service Desk and they will have an appropriate LIS staff member contact you to discuss your request in more detail.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Additional information will be sent directly to staff (or others working for Murdoch staff) who are using Windows XP or unsupported version of Mac OS on their computer. This information will elaborate on the impact these enhancements will have and how LIS will work with you to move forward.
