Call for Nominations – Deputy Chair of the Student Appeals Committee

posted 15 September 2015 | Staff Announcement - (staff)

Academic Council is seeking to appoint a Deputy Chair to the University’s Student Appeals Committee (SAC).

The term for the position commences at the completion of this selection process and is three years in duration.

SAC is a sub-committee of the Learning and Teaching Committee (LTC). The SAC facilitates a fair and just learning environment within the University. It provides an appeal process that ensures natural justice, transparency and accountability in assessment and decision-making.

The main duties of the Deputy Chair of the SAC are to make timely determinations regarding appeals against deferred assessment; make decisions about student appeal submissions and to chair student appeal hearings, as required.  This is particularly so in relation to appeals that cannot be considered by the Chair of the SAC, because the Chair is ineligible to consider the appeal or unavailable.

Further information about the SAC is available on its website at:

https://our.murdoch.edu.au/Committees/Academic-Council-Sub-committees/Learning-and-Teaching-Committee/Sub-committees/Student-Appeals-Committee/Members/

Eligibility requirements:

To be eligible to nominate, you must be a full-time academic staff member of the University, normally of the rank of Associate Professor or above (Level D or E), unless otherwise approved by Academic Council. The Deputy Chair cannot be from the same school as the Chair, who is presently from the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences. School Deans are not eligible to sit on the SAC.

Staff who are looking for an interesting and worthwhile way to undertake their commitments to University service are encouraged to apply.
