Earth Hour at Murdoch Uni - 12:00pm- 1:00pm, Thursday 17 March
posted 17 March 2016 | Staff Announcement - (staff)
Following the Acting Vice Chancellor Message, staff are advised that Earth Hour will take place between 12pm-1pm today.
Murdoch University is hosting its own Earth Hour on Thursday 17 March, from 12-1pm. We are seeking your support and endorsement for this iconic ‘lights out’ campaign.
It offers the Murdoch community an opportunity to participate in a high-visibility event that can deliver team building as well as energy savings across the campus.
Participation is very straightforward:
- Support your Re* Team Representative in facilitating your School’s or Office’s participation by sending an Outlook Calendar reminder to turn off unnecessary lights, computers, monitors, printers, and other devices (at the wall, if possible) between 12-1pm on Thursday 17th.
- Consider making a personal statement of support for your team’s participation in Earth Hour. You may like to invite your team to hold ‘walking meetings’, or a team potluck lunch outdoors. There will be Bike Week activities during Market Daze and the Sport and Rec Centre is hosting a free yoga class at the Peace Pavilion to celebrate Earth Hour. Join us if you can.
- Ask for Re* Team or other volunteers to conduct an audit of areas/ rooms / people in your School or Department that have joined in. Prizes will be offered to teams and individuals with the best participation rate.
- Consider offering an Earth Hour Challenge to other Schools or Offices in your building or among your colleagues.
The Property, Development and Commercial Services Office will be monitoring electricity consumption across the campus and hopefully will be able to gain data on the actual energy savings resulting from this event, which will be shared once the data has been assessed.
Staff from PDCSO will also be roving the campus during Earth Hour, looking for photo opportunities and distributing prizes to winning teams.
