Volunteers wanted for a qualitative study into knowledge management at Murdoch.

posted 19 April 2016 | Staff Announcement - (staff)

Researcher looking for academic staff, who’ve been at the university for over five years, to participate in a one-hour interview regarding their involvement in knowledge retention at Murdoch.

As part of my Honours research I am looking for academics who were working at Murdoch University during the 2014 Voluntary Retirement Scheme and are willing to participate in an interview regarding their experience. The interview is expected to take about 30-60 minutes.

I’m interested in learning about your experience with the Voluntary Early Retirement Scheme and the influence it may have had on your school’s knowledge database for example, how it may have influenced the amount of knowledge retained from retiring academics.

The information will be used to develop an understanding of the Murdoch University’s 2014 Voluntary Retirement Scheme, its impact on knowledge management and the impact of downsizing strategies on organisational knowledge. It is hoped that the findings will provide guidelines for other universities considering voluntary early retirement schemes.

Who can help?

  • School Managers or Deans: Who had employees within their school undertake a Volunteer Early Retirement package.
  • Active Academic Staff: Who had a colleague within their school undertake a Volunteer Early Retirement package.
  • Former Academic Staff: Who undertook a Voluntary Early Retirement package

All information will be treated with utmost confidentiality and no names or details that may identify you will be used in any publication arising from the research.

What's in it for you?

Although there is no direct benefit for your participation in the interview, you will be provided with a one-page summary of the findings and recommendations at the end of this research.

How does it work?

If you are interested in participating in the study, email Jon Levy (J.Levy@murdoch.edu.au). If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my supervisor Dr Tara Smith: Tara.Smith@murdoch.edu.au or Tel: 9360 6062

On confirmation of your willingness to participate, you will be contacted to arrange an interview date.

The interview will be conducted in person within one of the meeting rooms at the university. The interview should take approximately one hour to complete and is comprised of 12 open answer questions.
