Campus de-clutter: a shared effort in the lead up to Open Day
posted 21 June 2016 | Staff Announcement (staff)
All staff are again called upon to do their bit to help tidy the campus this week.
Murdoch University Open Day just around the corner, when on Sunday 24 July thousands of prospective students and visitors will explore our South Street campus.
To help maintain our beautiful University environment and make a positive and lasting impression on our Open Day visitors, the Vice Chancellor and our Chief Operating Officer again call on all staff to be proactive and show added effort to support our campus de-clutter.
Rolling up our sleeves to make our campus shine
We have a shared responsibility for maintaining safe, tidy and productive working and learning environments at Murdoch, working within our teams to review common spaces and identify opportunities to de-clutter, tidy or dispose of material.
There is still some work to be done working together to prepare our campus for Open Day.
There are a number of simple steps we can all take for immediate visual impact and reduced risk across the campus. These include:
- removing items from trafficable spaces such as pathways, building entrances, stairwells and corridors,
- effectively re-using or disposing of surplus items from frequented spaces, such as common rooms, office accommodation, laboratories and learning venues, and
- looking for opportunities to optimise the use of space and improving venue aesthetics.
In some areas, insufficient storage space may restrict de-cluttering for some Schools and Offices. If this is the case, please speak with your School Manager or Office Director about possible alternatives.
Help is at hand
The Property, Development and Commercial Services (PDCSO) team is supporting our campus clean-up by providing skip bins and logistical support for the removal of large items.
Skip bin locations are listed below and can be viewed on our campus map:
- Building 240 Biological Sciences Loading Zone 6
- Building 260 Vet Clinical Sciences (east)
- Building 335 Environmental Sciences Loading Zone 1
- Building 350 Library Loading Zone
- Building 450 Education & Humanities (south)
- Building 490 Amenities (north)
Bins will be removed on Friday 15 July, so please ensure they're filled before this Friday.
Wrapping up this process by mid-July will help ensure the campus is at its very best for Open Day, while also providing a positive experience for Semester 2 students attending Orientation Week.
PDCSO will continue to support the annual end of year campus clean-up in early December.
More information
School Managers and Office Directors will soon receive more information on guiding the tidy-up process – including bin locations, waste streams and disposal requirements – to help make de-cluttering as easy as possible for teams.
In the meantime, more information is available by emailing the PDCSO Helpdesk.
While it’s important to have our University looking its best for Open Day, we should all view campus cleanliness an ongoing initiative. Good housekeeping is essential to maintain the quality of our work and learning environments, so your ongoing support is greatly appreciated.
