Smoking on campus
posted 29 November 2016 | Staff Announcement (staff)
There have been an increasing number of smokers popping up across campus in non-smoking areas resulting in numerous complaints. Staff are reminded to be aware of the non-smoking areas and to respect the University’s smoking policy.
Murdoch University has a key commitment to a healthier campus, healthier people and a healthier environment.
Key hotspots include the Murdoch Tavern, Murdoch Institute of Technology (north side), Education and Humanities building (southern exit), main Library entrance on Bush Court and behind the Refectory.
In light of these concerns staff are reminded to comply with the University’s Smoke Free Policy and Fresh Air Zones.
In addition, key hotspots will be monitored and staff will be issued with warnings and directed to smoking areas. Staff are obligated to support Murdoch University’s non smoking policy and should encourage compliance from the entire University community.
We ask that you try and avoid smoking on campus completely. If you must smoke, please do so outside the Fresh Air Zones, which are signposted throughout campus and marked on maps.
